Well, the idea is that it is a "network volume" that gets connected to
(the connection is represented as an icon on the desktop). MacOS does
the same thing in 9.x and X, though it was confusing there as well
(until I got used to it). In OSX it's named "Connect To..." as well,
though I only knew what that meant b/c of Nautilus.

Mulling the issue a bit makes me think that maybe the way to handle
things like this is in the Bookmarks list (does it still exist?).
Certainly "Network Volumes" are just commonly-used network locations, so
maybe just treating persistant network volumes into bookmarks with a
"Show on the Desktop" checkbox or something would be better management.

But, of course, it'd require user testing to see if actually was better
in practice (specifically among Windows users).
