Or do we revert this? jamesh and I overlooked that automake1.4 didn't have a --force (instead, it has a --no-force or something similar). I checked in an emergency workaround so that if gnome-autogen.sh is configured to use automake-1.4, it won't use --force. Still, I think it's about time we start moving the gnome modules to autotool setups that aren't from the paleolithic. In most cases, there won't be problems at all, and in the cases where only automake1.4 works well, we should put some time into fixing it for at least automake1.7. I'd be glad to help a bit with this, if we decide it's doable. This same issue was brought up before back in the GNOME 2.3 days...
