My request for changing default behaviour is based on this and also that
from a usability point of view the most commonly used stuff should be

Simply put, if you opened a new folder in the same window it wouldn't be
spatial (which folder does that window represent?). If you want browser
style functionality, use the browse mode.
Also, is there any reason why you posted your reply here instead of on
gnome-devel-list where it began? If the thread needed to be moved,
moving to nautilus-list would have been more appropriate.
