This is being done because there is too much nose in the mailing list now.  
We're in danger of losing relevancy.  People are already starting to 
unsubscribe to this list because of flames, OT, and what not.  So we're 
trying to curb the noise.

I agree, completely.  I think someone is working on taking care of that.
