While I agree that adjusting the server config files is a miserable
idea I don't think we can honestly claim independence from
xfree/xorg. The availability XKB, and their spotty implementation
quality keeps us effectively tied to xfree/xorg. They're the only
servers that appear to have even a remotely functional XKB.
