There is also the GNU miscfiles package which contains some of that
information and since me and Behdad Esfahbod have become maintainers of
that (just very lately), we are planning to merge it with a few other
similar freedestkop.org projects (like iso-codes or Olson names of time
zones) and add i18n support, possibly using some translations also from
Unicode's CLDR effort.

We would appreciate any comments, in order to either move everything out
of GNU miscfiles and say goodbye to it, or change it to a properly
i18n-ed package and merge some stuff with it, and then advocating its
use in as many applications as possible.
