Extending the Gnome search capabilities to be able to search in OOo files

Hi Gnome Developers!

I would like to extend the Gnome search capabilities to be able to 
search in OpenOffice.org files.
Are the search capabilities of Gnome extensible and if yes is there any 
documentation, sample code,
or other help that brings me a step forward?
Any help highly appreciated.
