I guess (depending on your precise interpretation of "spatial model")
you could potentially retain something akin to the treeview sidebar...
then the user could navigate/move things about between folders as they
wanted, whilst still keeping each folder in its own window. Could be
tricky to figure out how to present a tree view in which you could only
activate things but not really select them though (and how to make such
a thing keynavigable).
