~/ has been a visible dir for a long time (!)

ln -s . Desktop ???

kill start-here, go with Common-tasks or something more apple like.

mv all application configs to ~/.etc
mv all application _data_ to ~/.var (i.e. ~/.var/mozilla/cache)
This would be great for backups.

Great to see nautilus improve!
