Yeah, providing helper functions to gnome apps to point to the proper
translated folders would be the best solution, then consistency with 
non-gnome apps would work. 

Vfolders unless done perfectly are very 
confusing for the user, for example I installed RH 8.1beta for my
friend and he immediatly started to clean out the menu, but he wanted
to save the menu structure in his home directory for later use, so he
dragged the folders out applications:/// to his home directory and
nautilus froze on him. This is a bug in nautilus, but it shows a very common 
problem that we will have, users will believe what they are seeing
are just files and folders they are going to try and do everything they
could normally do with a file to these special files. Another example
is archiving of special folders, load up file roller and drag
the contents of the start-here:/// folder to it, you get an error. 
But for a casual user they won't understand that what they are seeing
are special faked folders/files.

The only way to offer consistency to the user is through the real
file system. For special aggregated file systems, we should provide
the user with a tool, for example font management.
