I'll try to revive this again with a little summary as I understand it:

- Klipper's solution is to limit the amount of data taken.
  But gnumeric must do a lot of processing just to find out how much data
would need to be sent. Personally, I think a clipboard daemon should accept
that fact and not demand that gnumeric or other applications should be
changed. I think a complete application-specific opt-out is not
unreasonable.

- Toolkit support might be better than a daemon.
  But that's not likely to happen any time soon because it requires changes
to Qt, GTK+, Mozilla, and OpenOffice. The problem seems complicated enough
that it would take a lot of design and implementation. I would like GNOME to
have at least an interim solution. In general, we try to get stuff right
first time, but in this case I think the short-term and ideal solutions are
sufficiently different that it will not be a problem if we do it right in
the end as well. I think our users will thank us.

Jody, there seems to be lots of confusion about what exactly Klipper is
doing, so it would be great if you could try Hongli's patch and check
whether it actually has the same problems with Gnumeric. Here is the patch,
which works well for me:

Or, if you are not running GNOME 2.5, could you point us to a suitably big
gnumeric document, and give us clear test instructions?
