Of course, you also loose all the XML features not supported by GMarkup:
encodings beside UTF-8,
entities, default values of attributes, DTD validation. It may be worth to
pay that price, but if this decision is taken, the restrictions on the file
format should be documented.
libglade does not do DTD validation when it loads documents. Instead, the SAX parser is does a number of checks, that could as easily be done with GMarkup.
