Issue with installing old G2 in seperate prefix

Hi

I have current cvs in /usr and have (finally) got g2 2.0,2 in /opt

I run the folling script to run my g2 in /opt

export GNOME_PATH=/opt/gnome/bin
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/gnome/lib
export
PATH=/opt/gnome/bin:/opt/gnome:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/root/bin:/root/bin
export
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/opt/gnome/lib/pkgconfig/:/opt/gnome:/usr/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/X11R6/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
export WINDOW_MANAGER=/opt/gnome/bin/metacity

I then check set and everything is OK
Then I run startx and when I run set in a terminal my PATHS revert to
/usr

anyone any ideas whats happening
