Yes, Sun will be "inflicting" it as far as I know. (And yes, I did
document some of the same misgivings at the time the button-ordering
decision was made as people are re-iterating here now.)
I suspect, though, that there are sufficient differences in visual and
interaction style between Motif/CDE apps and GNOME apps anyway that most
users will already be on their guard for UI changes, consciously or
otherwise, when switching between them. Right now I'd be much more
concerned about aiming for UI consistency across all GNOME 2.0 apps,
core or otherwise-- because when things that look the same behave
differently, that's when you've really pointed your skis right down the
fall line...
