Fwd: OT - speed of compilation

I dont know whether this is a problem with my system or not but
recompiling nautilus and gnome-desktop is taking forever
 
for example nautilus has taken two days so far (tho it is stopped
twice due RH 7.3 problems) but even so about 15 hours so far
 
It seems to be on libtool or tests
 
In addition while doing this the only processes running is /bin/sh
 
Anyone any ideas on this
