libgnomeprint compile troubles

Normally these errors are just someplace where $(DESTDIR) didn't get
included on custom makefile target, but I can't find anything like that
in this case.  Here's the error I get:

make[2]: Nothing to be done for `install-exec-am'.
/bin/sh ../mkinstalldirs /usr/share/gnome/libgnomeprint-2.0/fonts
mkdir /usr/share/gnome/libgnomeprint-2.0
mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/share/gnome/libgnomeprint-2.0': Permission denied
mkdir /usr/share/gnome/libgnomeprint-2.0/fonts
mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/share/gnome/libgnomeprint-2.0/fonts': No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [install-aliasDATA] Error 255

Maybe it's jut too late at night, but I can't figure out how to fix this
one.  This is with libgnomeprint-1.109.1.  Anybody else got any
thoughts?  Thanks,
