Dbus error when starting Beagle daemon

I've successfully compile beagle and I believe I have correctly established the DBus session according to the wiki. I receive the following error upon starting the beagle daemon:
Could not initialize Beagle's bus connection:
System.ApplicationException: Service 'org.freedesktop.DBus' does not exist.
What is causing this?
