Let me try to clarify the current situation, at least to the best of
my ability.

The gnome-pim module has two branches, gnome-pim-1-0 and HEAD:

* gnome-pim-1-0 is the stable branch, which was used for all of the
gnome-pim 1.0.x releases. This branch is now being updated only
with bug fixes, and will soon be obsolete.

* gnome-pim HEAD is the development branch, which has been used for
the gnome-pim 1.1.x unstable releases. This branch is feature-frozen
in preparation for a near-term gnome-pim 1.2 stable release. No new
features should go into it, but patches for existing bugs will be
accepted. This code works, and should be tested (hint, hint). If
you have bug fixes/patches to submit, please do so in the next week
  or so. (more hints)

The next release of gnome-pim, then, will not be Evolution, but rather
gnome-pim 1.2, which will basically be a slightly more fixed (and
version-bumped) version of the recent gnome-pim 1.1.3 release. It
will be designated as stable, and gnome-pim 1.0.x (and the
gnome-pim-1-0) branch will presumably be considered superseded.

Evolution should more properly be considered the "next generation"
calendar program, the equivalent of gnome-pim 2.0. It is currently
under development in the evolution module, but as far as I can tell,
does not yet work. The calendar code in Evolution (which is only one
component of the overall application and is stored in
evolution/calendar) is based on a copy of gnome-pim HEAD from several
weeks ago. Federico has modified it to use a new client-server
abstraction, and has ported some, but not all, of the recent bug fixes
to gnome-pim HEAD to the new code. (He's going to the rest
eventually, he says.) Note that in particular, gnome-pilot and the
conduits should not be expected to work at this point with the code in
evolution/calendar.

Once gnome-pim 1.2 is released, it will be placed on a gnome-pim-1-2
branch in CVS. It has not yet been decided, I don't think, whether we
will continue to use gnome-pim HEAD for hacking, or whether all
development will move to the evolution module.

Helix hackers, please feel free to correct anything you disagree with,
particularly with regard to Evolution.
