Hi all,

As most of you noticed, I often make controverse suggestions. The driving force behind this is that I really love the Gnome-2 philosophy, although being an "IT-hardened power user" I guess, and thus I'd like balsa very much to fit more into this. There is a nice story on OSNews about this: http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=7864

Whether to spend my upcoming spare time working on Gnome-adaptions or not. I think balsa could be a hot candidate against evolution to be included in the Desktop, if evolution misses 2.8.

My opinion is that the any change that is being made must serve a purpose. I want to keep balsa simple - this is good for everybody - but not crippled. I am all for unifying the user interface as long as frequently used function remain accessible. I see Gnome-adaptation as making a program easy to use. A program is easy to use if the user never feels the need to change the preferences. If the preferences that people want to change anyway are easily accessible. If I was to work more on the user interface of balsa now, I would focus on such things like making keyboard navigation better because this really *adds* a value. I would very carefully consider all removals and weight gains and losses associated with them. This probably requires some effort, collecting opinions from the users, observing their actions and what annoys them, and some discussion as well.
