Calling Balsa from Openoffice and Mozilla

Hello,
Is it possible to call Balsa from Openoffice or Mozilla in RedHat 9?
Use cases:
Openoffice:
Select File-Send-Mail
Setting Openoffice settings to point at /usr/bin/balsa opens Balsa, but not the new message window. I would like balsa to open a new message with the Openoffice document as an attachment. How do I do that?
Mozilla:
How to set Mozilla to start Balsa with the right adress when clicking a mailto: link?
User environment is Red Hat 9 with 2.4.18 Kernel
I checked the FAQ and mailing-list archive for an answer to these questions, but could not find answers there.
