Exactly! And balsa is *really* good in sending such messages.

I currently work on a patch (half ready; not a one-liner any more, though...) which adds two radio buttons plus a menu to the config

Handling of national (8-bit) characters in broken mails
[ ] replace them by "?"
[ ] interpret them as xxx

where xxx is the option menu with options "west European", "east European", etc. etc. Thanks to Jeffrey's excellent infos, it should detect automagically if it's an iso or winbloze charset. Stay tuned (sorry, I'm packed with work these days...).
