I couldn't say it better :-))  Some prototypes and also some concepts (e.
g. handling of large input files) were changed massively. This seems to be 
an improvement, but as you said I first wanted to get a working solution 
on a stable basis. As soon as the gpgme guys mark a 0.4.x version as 
"stable", I'll migrate balsa to it.
