This is a problem I have had also, like just today.  I believe if you 
exit Balsa before logging out it
doesn't happen.  But I forgot that little fact last evening and just 
shut down my machine.  Since
I don't shut it down all that often, I had some 250 messages to delete 
again when I started it up again
this morning.
