Balsa 1.2.4 & 1.3.5 - iconv

I tried to compile Balsa 1.3.5 and came across a stumbling block, so went
backwards and found the same problem in Balsa 1.2.4 -----

checking for iconv_open in -liconv... yes

... snip
checking for iconv... no
configure: error: Unable to find iconv library
configure: error: ./configure failed for libmutt

Balsa 1.2.3 doesn't give me this problem.  I do have iconv installed (else this
version wouldn't work either).  I've used --with-iconv=/usr/lib but have the
same problem.  Any suggestions?
