Searching (non-IMAP :) mailboxes

Just wondering, as I browse the list of updated projects on 
Freshmeat - putting aside the issues of how to search an IMAP 
mailbox, has anyone thought about interfacing with mboxgrep 
(http://freshmeat.net/redir/mboxgrep/6267/url_homepage/) for 
regular mailboxes?

I'd find a search function really handy at this point (as my 
mail files spiral to silly sizes :)
