SMTP Problems

I am running balsa 2.2.0 with libesmtp-0.8.4-1 - both installed from the
RPM's downloaded from the balsa webpage on top of a freshly installed
Redhat 7.1 i386 installation.

When I try to send email via SMTP I get the pop up dialog box: Message
submission problem, placing it in your outbox. System will attempt to
resubmit the message until you delete it.

My ISP is uklinux. This is the same ISP as the author of libesmtp uses
so I don't think that it is thier fault. I have checked my mail setting
very thouroughly and tried all combinations of "Use TLS"

I know that the uklinux smtp server works because I am sending this via
mozilla. I also know that balsa does actually contact the smtp server
because I used ethereal to capture the packets coming back from the
server, however i was not able to make any sense of these packets. The
ethereal dump file for ther conversation between balsa and
mail.uklinux.net can be found on my website here:
http://www.alphageek.uklinux.net/smtpdump.ethereal .

Does anybody have any suggestions as to why this is not working? Is it
a bug in balsa or libesmtp or something else? If its not a bug then how
do I fix it?

yours

mark
