deleting inbox messages & compose window problem

Hey,
  After installing the latest version of balsa (1.1.4) I
can't delete messages in my Inbox folder (/var/spool/mail/cclay).
All other mail clients allow me to do this, and the permissions
on the file look ok.
  Also, when typing in the To field in the "New message" window,
strange things happen to the text -- it seems to become right
aligned, and flickers as I type.
  I'm running Mandrake 8.0
