How about fixing bugs and making it stable. This would get my vote.

If you are going to start addressing user interface issues I would focus on
conformity with Standards set by apps like Eudora and Outlook before diving
off onto research projects like this. Having a stable bug free app with a
standard user interface is going to get you a lot more respect and a bigger
user base than questionable user interface features. This would also go a
lot further to establishing Linux as a desktop alternative to Windows.
