As many of you know, Balsa doesn't have support for multiple user accounts.
Yes, Balsa can retrieve mail from multiple sources, but I have something
different on my mind. I'm talking about user profiles (Eudora calls them
'Personalities'). I'm thinking about implementation of such profiles in Balsa.
Profile controls some aspects of all outgoing messages. There is always
at least one default profile. Profiles are ordered by priority, where the
default profile is the least important one.
When sending new mail, default profile is used and user can change it in
compose window by selecting different profile in 'From' combobox. When
replying (forwarding message) to email, profile is selected by matching
recipient address of original message with email address stored in each
profile and first profile that match is used. Profiles are matched by
priority. If no profile (e-mail address) match, the default one is used.
Each Profile contains the following information:
- user name
- user mail address
- oragnization
- reply-to address
- default domain
- signature
This concept can be extended by including other information in profile
e.g. mail sending options (smtp server), incoming mailbox, but it
requires significant changes in mailbox tree structure from the development
and also user perspective.
I want to know if outlined idea is desireable from both user and designer
point of view and hear your comments/flames etc.
slon!
