I don't know if this is the kind of thing you had in mind, but...

I use nmh and one of the features I like (and would insist on before
seriously considering any new mail client) is the ability to have a folder
contain both messages and sub folders.  I know this may sound silly ("Why
don't you just create a sub-folder that has all the messages?"), but 
that's the way I like it.  And I think it may make logical sense to other
users as well.  I hope balsa will support this.
