There is nothing wrong with libxml/libxslt output. Libxml works perfect.
Also I guess the encodings that I am using are correct.

Here is my confusion. The thumbpath outside the IMG element works
correctly - th_100_001à. But within the IMG element, it works
differently. I use the same parameters and the encodings are set at
global level. (forget about the UTF-16, that was generated by xmlspy as
I wanted only a snippet of the xml/xsl)
