GUADEC 2001 Status?

Hi,

To get the conversation started and to catch up many of us who have not
been involved in planning GUADEC 2001, it would be really nice if the one
of the main GUADEC 2001 coordinators could put together a summary of what
the plans are and what still needs to be done or decided.

A few questions that come to mind:

1) How many people do we expect to attend?

2) Last year GUADEC focussed the "D" a lot more than the "U" or the media.
Will this year's conference be basically a developer conference, or will
we try to involve users and the media more?

3) Should we have partial sponsorship to help GNOME contributors who are
not core hackers? (I'm particularly curious about this because (a) last
year I did not have any sponsorship at all, and (b) it would be nice to
see more documentation and translation people there who may not be willing
to pay the entire trip on their own.)

4) What is the layout? One track of talks? Or will there also be
workshops or discussions/meetings on various topics.

5) Should we do anything special to help integrate some of the newer GNOME
contributors? The Sun desktop group and Sun OO group both come to mind
here.

Dan
