gtk+-2.5.4 ; cant compile pkgconfig-0.15.0

Is it possible to  build gtk+-2.5.4 without pkgconfig.
If not , how do I fix this error I get while "make"ing
 pkgconfig:

gmain.c:191: `poll' undeclared here (not in a
function)
gmain.c: In function `g_get_current_time':

I am using a mininilist linux distro (Core Linux)
running  2.6.9.
