 1) why you unistall gtk+1.2? you must 
    install gtk+2.0 without unistall gtk+1.2.

 2) for gtk+2.0 you can use pkg-config instead
    of gtk-config use this :
  "pkg-config gtk+-2.0 --libs --cflags"
