combining 2 xpms

Alright... I try diligently to get gdk_draw_pixmap to work for me. I'm not
knew to C programming but lack of documentation and new concepts are
causing me frustration since I'm just trying to slam together a simple
client to test server software I'm writing. In frustation I went out and
bought a couple java books read through them completely only to find them
lacking in documentation with issues concerning programs that are not
Applets (in a web page/ images anyway) so still I am dying to any language
that can just accomplish this simple task with some documentation.

If I could get a simple program demonstration the use of gdk_draw_pixmap
and whatever `gc' is I'd really appreciate it.  Gtk is fast and looks
great, it's the way I'd prefer to go.

Also, if you get frustrated with this question cause there is some obvious
source out there with the answer available letting me in on that would be
great as well.
