Yes, so your keyboard setting is ok.

Mmmh. could it be realted to the problem of gnumeric reported by
someone (he couldn't input spanish letters anymore).

I don't think the problem is there; but maybe rather on gnome/gtk+ 
It works ok with previosu version; I'm compiling the latest one and I'll check

No; what I mean is that for the "XkbLayout pl" to work you need to have
the locale to 'pl' (or some other using latin2) as the 'pl' layout
has latin2 keysyms (aogonek, cacute, zabovedot, lstroke,...).
If you have "XkbLayout pl" with 'fr' locale (French uses latin1) the
you won't be able to type the latin2 letters.

Of course, if you don't define any keyboard at all the default one (US model)
will be used.
