Decoders for Multimedia Devices

Hello,
I successfully installed the "Breezy Badger" edition of ubuntu (gnome).
I experience issues such as CDs not playing, streaming media not
responding and toem player not playing: CDs, DVDs, streams etc
I haven't found a website that allows me to download the needed decoders
or codecs for these media players.
For now, xmms works best and probablly audacity and VLC.
Please me out here. Your advice is being requested here.
