Well, parsing the multi-line output of an exec command doesn't seem much
safer than actually using IDL... but I suppose it can be made to work. 
I still think that we should (eventually) have a language-independant
way of doing activation.

Would it be OK to ask for a command-line option that was a little terser
and in a guaranteed format, for just such hackery?
