Re: Proposal to revamp bookmarks++

Hi Peter,

IDEA 1: Replace "Smart Bookmark" with "Search"

*knows* that they bookmarked Google as a "Smart Bookmark", and not as a
regular bookmark, right? So what happens when they select "Google" on
the white background, rather than on the grey background? The user
should be made aware that there really is a Google bookmark which isn't
smart. It should be explicit in the bookmark editor, as distinct from
the Search.

Part of this problem is covered in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313792. Smart bookmarks activated from the "white background" dropdown shouldn't load http://blah.tld/query=%s but should either activate the base URL or not be listed there at all.

Addendum 3: "History" in bme, renamed to "Link Editor" or "View Links" ?

If I understand correctly, you are suggesting to converge the History and Bookmark editors? This idea is discussed under http://live.gnome.org/Epiphany_2fBookmarksHistoryIntegration

Long story short, I support this idea (in essence, bookmarks are just persistent history items) but the design should allow for future improvements like web thumbnails and maybe even a continuous slider widget that would allow for fine-grained history selection (use case: last friday around lunchtime, Bob remembers visiting this interesting website. But to find it back in the History window on monday, Bob currently has to browse through all entries of the 'Last 10 days'. Now imagine having a logarithmic scale timeline slider and yanking it to somewhere in between friday and saturday. Suddenly the browseable list is reduced to the entries of ~12 hours).

many. Also can hook up "View/History" to just open this same window with the "History" button set.

+1

IDEA 2: Merge the "Add Bookmark" window with "Bookmark Properties"
------------------------------------------------------------------

I get the same thing when working online. I find some reference
documentation, I find the single page that I want *right now*, then
decide I want to bookmark the whole site. Just "Add Bookmark" and
shorten the URL.

I can't think of any objections to this :)

Drop down list contains:
- Show suggested topics
- Show top-level topics
- Show all topics
- Show deli.cio.us topics

I'd rename the last item to 'community' topics as we may want to support other services similar to delicious. Otherwise I'm looking forward to trying out this new model.

regards,
