status docklets

Hi,
Is there any documentation on the status docklet specification that
people seem to be using in both GNOME and KDE?
Can we please write this down if it isn't, formally discuss/revise it
if required, and get it on freedesktop.org? It's a recipe for disaster
if lots of apps are using an undocumented protocol.
