Ok, thanks!

I have Gnome 2.4 on Mandrake. Here seem to be only four fixed
shortcuts on the Desktop. There doesn't seem something to add
additional shortcuts.

Yes mnemonics should be available in case there are conflicting
leading letters in menu labels.

Is submitting a problem report a matter of developers or is it
available to any user?

There should be a navigation in an opened menu that can be achieved
efficiently by the main keyboard field.

Menu options with a label containing a mnemonic (underscored letter)
should be triggered by this letter.
Menu options with a label containing no mnemonics but a unique leading
letter should be triggered be that letter.
If there are conflicting leading letters there should be either of
two approaches available.
Either pressing the leading letter should cycle the focus through
all of the options that contain that key as first letter. Pressing
space or enter should activate the selected option (as is the case
when using arrow keys).
Or pressing more subsequent letters until the entered prefix becomes
unique and then the respective option should be selected. Then it can
be activated by space or enter.

Maybe such an approach is available in 2.6 or a later version. Or
else I'd like to submit a problem report.
