I have the same error message and I'm quite sure, that there is
no older version of guile installed.
Is there any way to check whether there are some old headers?

My system is redhat 7.1 with
guile-1.4-ximian.9
guile-devel-1.4-ximian.9.i386.rpm

and I have also compiled Guppi-0.35.5-1.src.rpm on my system
(the binary version required old guile / libguile.so.6)
