I have the same issue like what you encountered.  

The reason is simply because you didn't give the GtkImage widge a Icon.   
Go back to Glade interface editor, open the Properties of the image widget, 
then select anicon for it.  In my case, After I select a stocked icon for 
the image widget, I can compile and like it successfully.
