Compiling gtk+-2.2.2

Hi, All!!!
I'm new to this list, so pls, don't kill me if this is a FAQ.

I'm trying to compile gtk+-2.2.2 but I get an error stating:
failed to load "./stock_add-16.png": Couldn't recognize the image file format for file './stock_add_16.png'.

I tried to configure without loading the libpng modules, but nothing happens.

Can someone help me???
