Prefix mixup

Between version 1.2.6 & 1.2.9 various installation sappear not to 
clean reset the location of installation correctly.

I currently have a working installation only after creating two 
extra links.

/usr/local/lib/gtk -> /usr/lib/gtk
/usr/local/share/themes -> /usr/share/themes

Is this a gnome or gtk problem? 
What holds the system location of themes & pixmap libraries?
