gdk help!

Hi, I've been working with gtk+ and i need to use the drawing area widget 
with a gdk pixmap. Problem is, there is almost no documentation on GDK. does 
anyone know where i can find documentation on GDK? or does anyone has 
expertise in gdk and is willing to correspond with me?
Basically, i want to connect an adjustment with the pixmap to a scrollbar so 
i can scroll around the pixmap. .Thanks
