your solution is good for solaris,

BUT just a bit of a warning:

with redhat 4.2 on Intel, LD_LIBRARY_PATH is not used
by the linker if this one knows were to find libraries
by itself (in /etc/ld.so.conf for example).

That's why if you don't install the libraries after a
new gtk make, when you run testgtk it uses the old libraries!
