umlaut problem

Hello,

I have a problem with my GTK+-application. It (i. e. the 
button-widget) refuses to display umlauts. It displays 
everything up to the umlaut but neither this special 
character nor the remaining part of the string. I already 
tried to set the LANG and LC_CTYPE environment-variables 
to "de_DE", but this had no (recognizable) effect. Does 
anyone know the solution?
