These changes sound fairly good.  Although the code in EggMenu was 
originally based on the libbonoboui format 
(http://cvs.gnome.org/lxr/source/libbonoboui/doc/ui-xml.txt), things are 
sufficiently different now that it is probably better to go with names 
that will cause less confusion.
