Note also that packages that move over to automake-1.5 should also 
remove code like this from their autogen scripts, as 1.5 adds support 
for automatic dependency generation with compilers other than gcc.

(of course, for glib, gtk+, etc which primarily use 1.4, this patch 
should probably be applied).
